How to create a Metamask wallet

Metamask is the preferred wallet for people storing ETH and interacting with Dapps at the same time. This article will cover the basic steps to create a new Metamask wallet as a browser extension.Have you ever wondered where to store your cryptocurrencies? Want to buy some fresh ETH, and you have harsh times deciding where to keep it? The wait is over! Metamask is both a cryptocurrency wallet and a gateway to blockchain apps. It comes in the form of a browser extension and a mobile app, providing you with a key vault, secure login, token wallet, and token exchange: all at the same time.

Here are the necessary steps for you to install and configure a Metamask wallet to store your ETH.

Step 1:

Download Metamask depending on your device. (for simplicity, we´ll choose to install it as a browser extension by clicking on the option "Install Metamask for Firefox")

Step 2:

Once redirected to the corresponding page on Addons for Firefox, install Metamask to your browser as you do with any other browser extension by clicking on the button "Add to Firefox."

Step 3:

You will see in the browser´s Toolbar the Metamask icon, click on it to start configuring a new wallet or restoring an older one (in case you already have an ETH wallet and want to restore it on Metamask using your 12 words seed phrase)

Step 4:

We will create a new one. Click on the "Create a Wallet" button.

Step 5:

In the next step, you will be asked to help Metamask improve the wallet by sending information when using it. Click on "Agree" if you want to help; otherwise, click "No, thanks" and continue.

Step 6:

Create a strong password for your wallet.

Step 7:

Reveal your 12 words seed phrase and make sure you store it safely in a place where you can recover it when need it.

Step 8:

Confirm your secret backup phrase by clicking on each word in the order in which the words were presented on the previous screen. Click on “Confirm” to proceed.

Step 9:

The last step is checking if everything was ok by receiving the following message. Click the "All Done" button.

Each time you need to use your Metamask wallet, you will only need to click over the Metamask logo in your browser´s toolbar and enter the password you chose when installing it. By default, when you install a new Matamask wallet, a new Ethereum wallet address will be automatically generated for you! Is that easy! If you already have another Ethereum wallet and, of course, you own its 12 words secret phrase (this means this wallet IS your property and none else), you can restore it on Metamask by choosing "Import Wallet" in Step 4 of this tutorial instead of click over "Create a Wallet"...once imported you will see the amount of ETH you previously own (in case you have some ETH stored there)

Metamask is a simple but powerful wallet that will let you store not only ETH and its associated tokens like USDT, USDC and others, but it will also allow you to interact with other blockchains apart from Ethereum (you can configure it to interact with Polygon-MATIC, Binance Smart Chain, Avalanche, XDai and others). Also, it will give you the possibility to connect to websites like Opensea, Rarible and other Dapps (Decentralized Apps). Enjoy your newly created wallet!
